    The LPD

I posted this in here so we can get some good, analytical discussion.

What is everyone's thoughts on the LPD teams after the season??

    Clintwood:
A team of ups and downs. When they are on, they are great. Almost unstoppable. IT seemed like they got complacent towards the end and got routed by JIB, but they are a better team than that. If they can get it rolling, they will be a tough out for anyone in Div. 1

    Powell Valley:
Ive never felt as proud of a 5-5 team. They coulda layed down at 1-3, and not cared. They coulda quit after Myron's situation. They did not. They showed great heart and a great defense. The offense has some problems, they struggle in long yardage, and i dont see them winning any playoff games, but anything can happen. PV can win, but they have to rely on running the ball way too much, their vertical passing attack is nonexistant, and they can be gashed by running the ball off tackle.

    JJK:
Great, tough team. Ill admit i thought they were a powderpuff team. Boy, I was wrong. They have a great rushing attack and a ROUGH defense. They dont have the most athletic kids, or the fastest, but they play as a team and give it their all. They can win a playoff game. If they play a team taht can stop the run, they are in trouble tho. They are 1 dimensional, they cannot pass the ball.

    JIB:
Another great team. Miles is great, with taht weapon JIB has tons of options. They are fast, and can run run run. Their defense has played great the second half of the season, a surprise. They can def. make some noise in the post season, have to be the favorites. With a player like Miles, they can beat any team on any day. Their passing attack is weak, that can hurt them against good teams.

    Appalachia:
Decent team. Good, varied rushing attack. They have 3 or 4 guys who are very capable runners, and tough. I dont understand why #2, Forrest, isnt involved in the offense more, he has speed like crazy and can make some moves, but he lined up outside all njight and didnt touch the ball but maybe once or twice. Their defense is tough and quick, but small and has no depth. They are a decent team, but cant beat a good team without having a lotta breaks.

    Pound:
Pound was Pound. Had some good players, but not enough to really make any noise. I didnt see them play any, so maybe someone else can fill out more on Pound.

Pretty good synopsis there Biggin. I wil say this, and it's by no means a huge thing, but I have seen some improvement in the JJK passing game. Last week a long TD pass at Appy, and last night a long pass to Osborne to start the opening drive. I'm not B.I.,but if I were,I'd move McGinness to WR next year and give Aaron Thompson a shot at QB. The kid has size at 6'4 and has a much better arm than McGinness. McGinness would be a nightmare to defend as a pass receiver with that frame (wish he had a few more pounds on him). I'd feel good about fades and jump balls with him at wideout. There's alot of folks who feel this way. I hope B.I makes the move (but it's his show to run).

I'll say something about Aaron Balthis while I am at it. Were he at Wise,Norton,PV,or Clintwood,he'd be all-distric. He really is a smooth RB,but he has no help.

    Re: The LPD

I wish Balthis was at Clintwood. I think he would fit seemlessly into the team.

I'll play this synopsis game too.

Clintwood--Honestly feel they over-achieved early, slumped late and hopefully fixed it. Knowing the game was against Pound, the team concept seemed to be back much more than it had been the previous weeks, even in some of the wins. Defensively, if they work together can be scary, the offense is hit or miss. I kind of think that they have been too conservative at times and that may have hindered the attitude. Can be tough.

Powell Valley--overated IMO at the beginning of the year. Phil put the bullseye on them with the comment of 10-0. Didn't see the gamebreakers on the team, but they can be solid. Probably a team that needs to play conservative and keep games low scoring. Don't feel like they are that good, but maybe better than we think due to their schedule. The last win over Appy did not build confidence as I thought Appy would roll over after last weeks game vs Kelly.

Norton--Dangerous team due to their defense, more than Miles on the offense. The defense can outscore other teams defense. Depth on the lines helps them a lot. Quarterback play is going to be a key come playoff time, but with Miles and a good dose of experience, they are going to be tough due to the big play capability.

Kelly--Better than expected by most. Seemed to have jelled as the season has went on. Another team that is probably better to keep the game low scoring (everybody but Norton is probably this way). Physical team that seems to able to keep their players fresh with a bit of rotation. Probably playing the best ball of anybody right now, but will the week off hurt the momentum.

Appy--A solid team that appears to lack an identity. Seemed to be on the cusp several times this year but never seemed to be able to make that one play they needed. Definitely improved as a team from last year, but seem to be getting away from what made them Appalachia.

Pound--Probably plays as hard as anybody but goes into most situations down due to coaching. Some good people as coaches but not sure that the experience is there and it costs them in preperation and game plan. Better shape than the previous years, which is a good start.

I just think that the LPD as a whole was a lot closer in level. Don't feel that anybody is great but also feel like the competition may help them later. Most everybody has had to play some close games.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

I don't know about a week off hurting momentum, but we are banged up considerably, and a week off right now is a great thing.

    Re: The LPD

[QUOTE=Unchained;1797748]I don't know about a week off hurting momentum,I can see that reguardless of what anyone thinks of there schedule as a whole they have been in tight emotanaly draining FB games 4 out of the last 5 weeks with the last 2 games being unoffical playoff games (knowing that droping one of them would have left them sitting at home)..... I think that the bye week is a great thing for Kelly

Clintwood- They are playing 1st year starters at all the skill positions and it shows....The line has been inconsistant this season But considering that they lost a 3 year all state starter and a 4 year starter (not sure if he was all district or region?) there was going to be some growing pains there The big thing 07 and 08 did for this team was mke them epect to win every game which IMHO helped them in some tight spots this season

PV- Started out the season as a spread team that was better playing an Appy styal ball control game (Love him or hate him Robbins may be the only coach around with the balls to make that big a change to his offence mid season)

Kelly - A MUCH better team than I expected going into the year (Not sure how it is possable to graduate your entire backfield and have it come back stronger the next season

Burton - About what I thought they would be Miles is GREAT and if there QB can step up (like the CW game) they will be tough to beat......if not (like the PV and Kelly games) they are very beatable

Appy - Stronger than last season and will return there entire backfield next season

Pound - Any players with any desire to do more than just be on a team need to transfer to Kelly or CW or heck even jenkins NOW I have stuckup for Crabtree in the past but last Friday I saw a team that is lacking in coaching hylighted by running a dobble reverse 2 or 3 times (loseing yards) to set up the doubble reverse pass a play in which they forgot to send any recevers down field (that did not end well for them)

Anyone who wasn't there, has no idea just how funny this play was.

It seems like they'd work on mastering the basic stuff before they went crazy with the octuple reverses and the hook and laterals.

I really think nobody is that good which is why you have seen what you have. The best team in Region D is GC and they are a far cry from what I would consider a good team.

Yep. Very down year. I'm glad Clintwood returns 90% or more of the major contributors to maybe have a chance at being pretty good next year.

    Re: The LPD

I'm kind of gonna agree with you Counts on one factor. I've thought Crabtree was a nice enough guy, not a good coach mind you but that he made up for a lot by being enthusiastic. He was more concerned about a really obvious non-call late in the game (some reason a guy slowing up and putting hands on a guy going out of bounds he thought should be a flag for late hit), was more concerned about running gadget plays, and as more than one person said afterwards, seemed kind of a butt after the game. Not sure why as I don't think Clintwood could have been more 'nice' than they were as far as using subs. I actually wouldn't have been as nice as Clintwood was, as I felt some of the kids needed to be in there more for Clintwood for experience and to have some fun with football again.

I can even justify a bit of trick plays for a team like Pound as your trying to keep the games fun for the kids but when you run one and it seems like they don't know it, it looks horrible.

    Re: The LPD

I've been saying it on here for years and have even received pm's from him and had him asking other people at games who I was, Crabtree is a joke. He's the worst coach in the LPD and the worst one the LPD has had in a long time. He's a joke.
